Strengthening Our Sisterhood (S.O.S.)

Luncheon @ Vidas 004The idea for SOS was born out of a need to connect our girls with community-minded, successful women of influence to broaden horizons, develop life skills, and reinforce the importance of education.  Vida Langenkamp, Holly Ryan and Teddi Kennedy (board member) hosted the first luncheon at Vida and Jim Langenkamp’s beautiful home in September.  Over 30 women attended the event and Senior Noor Grewal spoke about her experience at SJA.  Taylor Mitchell (Junior) was also at hand greeting all the guests.  Here are ways you could help us strengthen our sisterhood:

  • One of the best ways to get to know us is to tour our school:  see the new science labs, the library with the new multi media center, the classrooms where the magic really happens.  We’re convinced that if you take the time to visit our school and interact with our girls, you will fall in love.
  • You could host a house party and invite other community-minded women like yourself.  We’d be happy to tell our story to a new group of people, after all that is what it’s all about.
  • For the past couple of years, Holly Ryan and Teddi Kennedy have been hosting leadership lunches where successful women from the community have lunch with our girls and chat with them about their trials and tribulations and the determination it took to achieve their goals.  These lunches are very inspirational to our girls who have had few female role models in their lives, and your story may motivate our girls to make their lives a success.
  • A gift of your time is very valuable to us.  You could help out in the main office by answering the phones, helping with the mail.  Or, you could chaperone our girls on field trips or college visits.  You could also choose to be a substitute teacher and help out in the classroom.
  • Our next event is the fall fest on Sunday, November 8.  This is a 55 year old tradition with our Sisters of Charity, to celebrate the school community, parents, alums, friends around the neighborhood.  We serve a spaghetti dinner and dessert.  This year one of our parents has donated a flat screen TV which will be raffled off.  Please help us make this event successful by helping out with the bake sale, with the take out orders or even buying raffle tickets.
  • Our annual fundraiser of course is the Annual Auction & Dinner in Spring.  The theme is Mardi Gras.  Mark your calendars: the date is Saturday, April 24.  You can help out by donating a unique item to the auction, a favorite bottle of wine for the wine auction and of course by attending with your family and friends.

Please call us if you’d like to be involved!  We’d love to hear from you. Contact Nandini Sinha, Vice President of Advancement, for more information.
